2019 Omega School Prom

It was a memorable night celebrating powerful student stories and honoring Oscar Mireles for his 25 years at Omega School. Thank you Oscar for the lasting impact you’ve had on thousands of Omega’s students!

Honorees for their service to our community included John DeMain, Steve Fleichman, Alex Gee, Sheryl Kato, Jim Kramer, and Tom Moen.

On behalf of all of the students at Omega School, we thank everyone who supported Prom 2019. An annual event that helps to continue our mission providing education and opportunities in our community. We all were inspired by the stories shared by our graduates: Kisha Ralston and Martina Mitchell.

Oscar Mireles has been the Executive Director of Omega School for the past 25 years. He has assisted over 3000 adults with more than securing a GED/HSED credential. Many of Omega School’s past students were fortunate to find in Oscar a mentor and a friend. He has the gift of connecting to kids and adults across different cultures and age groups. Countless students credit Oscar’s personal attention and care to completing their GED/HSED and changing their professional and personal paths. At times, he was the one person students could count on to not give up on them. His contagious energy, positivity and joy will continue to echo in the walls of Omega and the lives of his former students and Omega’s staff.

Oscar helped shaped what Omega is today. He also establish an endowment for the school and raised funds to purchasing a building and permanent home for Omega School. He has been a National Trainer for the Time Warner’s Time to Read Program, the nation’s largest corporate based literacy program. For the past 17 years, he has trained over 1,500 corporate and volunteer tutors in Time to Read sites in New York, Chicago, Houston, Kansas City, Columbus and Minneapolis.

Oscar’s influence has not only been strongly felt at Omega, but throughout the community as a respected leader, advocate and writer for the last several decades. His ability to inspire and assist in the positive change of a community as a whole, and individuals in his life, make us thankful he chose Madison to call home.
