Kids Fund recognizes Oscar Mireles for his community work

Two longtime Madison nonprofit leaders were honored during The Capital Times Kids Fund annual meeting and reception at the company’s office Thursday.

Oscar Mireles, the veteran leader of Madison’s Omega School, received the Kids Fund’s Joyce Erdman youth service award, named for the late civic leader and longtime Kids Fund president who died nearly 20 years ago in a bicycle accident. Mireles has long been involved in encouraging young people without high school diplomas to return to classes to achieve an equivalency diploma so they are better able to find meaningful jobs. In addition to his work at the Omega School, he has been involved with numerous programs aimed at helping young people achieve.
