Frequently Asked Questions

“What type of school is Omega School?”

Omega School provides an alternative learning environment for young adults wishing to improve their quality of life by preparing for the GED/HSED diploma. GED/HSED instruction is structured to meet the individual student’s specific needs. Our low student-to-teacher ratio enables our committed staff to create the kind of learning atmosphere which enables and encourages each student to take responsibility for his or her own achievements.

Specific services offered by Omega include help in basic skills preparation in reading and mathematics and  GED/HSED preparation.

“What will it be like to attend Omega School?”

Omega School provides education in the basic skills needed for successful learning. Omega’s student/teacher ratio is never more than four to one. Students are encouraged to speak their mind in respect to their educational needs.

At Omega School, our students are expected to be serious about their own learning and education. It is up to the student (not teacher or parent) to put forth the effort to succeed. It’s all about THE STUDENT’S success, after all!

Our classroom environment is unlike any found in traditional schools. The comfortable and bright atmosphere, coupled with the warmth and friendliness of our instructors, help our students to feel at home. Our small offices provide the quiet space neccessary for students to focus on their studies.

Students attend classes two days per week, either Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday. Our classes are scheduled in two-hour blocks, with students attending a minimum of four hours per week.

“I thought Omega School was going to be like a regular school?”

Omega School is quite different from most people’s idea of a ‘regular school’. Our hours are different. The days we offer classes are different.
There are no school bells between classes. We encourage students to work at their own pace. Omega School is geared more toward finding out what each individual student needs in order to succeed than a traditional school. Every student is motivated and focused and that makes learning possible for everyone.

“How do I enroll in Omega School?”

Omega School periodically conducts new student orientation sessions. These are generally held on Friday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. when school is not in session, and other students are not around.   For information on an upcoming orientation,

Our Friday Morning orientation sessions are designed to
familiarize prospective students with our facility, the instructors and the learning environment at Omega School.

Enrollment forms will be available at the orientation
session, or you may click here for an advance copy.

“How can I be sure that Omega School is the right school for me?”

The first few times you study here, it will be to see if you like it, to see
if we can work together, and to find out if Omega School is the right place for you. Omega School isn’t for everyone. If you might do better in a different learning environment, we will explain why and we will provide you with a referral.

If you start attending Omega School and things don’t work out, the staff
reserves the right to ask you to stop coming and we will give your seat to someone else.

“What if I don’t like something that happens to me while I’m studying at Omega School?”

If you are unhappy about the book you are using, the teacher or tutor you are working with, or if another student bothers you, it’s up to you to say something to one of the staff.

We will do what we can to improve whatever it is that you are unhappy about. You may also use Omega School’s grievance procedure to file a formal complaint. That complaint may be taken to Omega School’s Board of Directors to be settled.

Ask one of the staff for a copy of the grievance procedure if you need it.

“How can I volunteer to help at Omega School?”
